Implementing this smart card authentication technology
Utilizes a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) Security Certificate to verify cardholder's identity
Access to a device's functions can be controlled under CAC/PIV authentication, for example to the scan-to-email function can be limited only to certain areas
Solution requires CAC/PIV compatible MFP(s) with print/scan kit, USB host interface and Java VM card options
Customer-supplied items include: DoD security certificates, Common Access Card, Common Access Card Server and Common Access Card Reader (tested Smart Card readers include: SCM Microsystems: SCR331, CSR3310; OMNIKEY: CardMan 3121)
Benefits
Provides strong user authentication for securing government information assets
Guards against security breaches without disrupting normal authorized document workflows
Personnel can use the same CAC/PIV card, used to access physical buildings, rooms and computer resources, to access network Multifunction Products (MFPs)
Establishes MFP document security and accountability practices tied to the identity of individual users
Provides FIPS 140-2 certified scan-to-email.
